U-18 I-League 2016-17: United Sports Club failed to confirm their way to the final !!

On 05/05/2017 at Barasat Stadium United Sports Club failed to confirm their way to the final of U-18 I-League after being defeated by AIFF Academy through Sudden-Death as the full time & Penalty Kicks could not finalize the winner.


United Sports Club having won their all group league matches with total dominance in the final round of U-18 I-League, Purple brigade played their semi final against All Indian Football Federation Academy on 5th May 2017 at Barasat Stadium.

On the other hand AIFF academy qualified to the semi final with 7 points with 2 win and 1 draw. The AIFF Academy boys have been together for a long time & it was quite obvious that USC had a tough challenge this time in the semi final of U-18 I-League. On top of that USC hasnít played on Astroturf ground in this tournament yet & AIFF has played all their 3 matches in the group league at Barasat Stadium.

United coach made 3 changes from the winning side that secured 3 points against Royal Wahingdoh FC in their last match in group league of U-18 I-League. Manotosh Chakladar, Avijit Kar & Md. Habib joined the first 11 replacing Sudarshan Sarkar, Ranojit Pandit & Rik Deb Paul.

Unlike the previous matches United started off with a bit defending strategy. As if they were trying to measure the opponent strength. AIFF academy struck few positive moves towards USC goal but failed to break the solid defence line of USC. On 8mins the purple brigade made a go move but USC striker Sandip Bhattacharjee could not give a lead to his side.

AIFF kept on attacking & got 2 corners on 19th & 24th Mins of the game. As the match went on AIFF grew in confidence & kept on pressing on USC. Nevertheless United defence line stood firm to stop their opponent. Sujay Oraon for USC did a fantastic job with Manotosh to hold the opponent.

The score line remained 0-0 till the first half of the game.

United took a substitution before the 2nd part of the game Md. Habib replaced by Supartik Barui.

In the 2nd half both the sides emphasized on having maximum ball position& played safe football. As it was conveyed by AIFF that if the match remains draw till 90th Mins then penalty Kicks shall be taken to determine the winner in semi final & final matches.

United coach took another substitution replacing Dipankar Baral Rahul Kumar Paswan made his debut for USC in the U-18 I-League. On 73mins AIFF Academy made a great effort from a long range shoot but USC was lucky enough to escape the danger as the ball hit the bar . Again on 74 mins AIFF got a free kick outside the USC top box but they failed to take advantage from it as well. On 87 mins USC made a good move from their right side but Sujay oraonís cross went over opponent goalpost. Again on 89 mins Sandip Bhattacharya took a long range shoot towards opponent goalpost but it was too high. Moreover the Purple brigade put on a great fight till the final min of the match. USC took their final substitution on 9oth mins Rana Pandey was replaced by SK. Imran Ali.

The final Score line remains 0-0 after the full time of the 2nd half.

In penalty Kicks the score line remain same & from Sudden-death after taking total 14 kicks All India Football Federation Academy turned victorious.
