It was an even contest in the early stages with ball possession similar and hardly any clear cut chances. The first real attempt on goal came from United SC. United SC went in front in the 34th minute when Azharuddin Mallick was given the time and space to shoot from outside the box and the hat-trick man’s shot gave Tanmay no chance.

Pune FC coach Naushad Moosa made a change in the first half itself but his side couldn't come back into the match and found themselves 1-0 down just before the interval.

In the second half Partha Sen's boys started the game brightly and were clearly the better of the two sides. The relentless attacking soon bore fruits, as Azharuddin Mallick’s hat-trick broke the Punes' resistance, handing United SC a deserving lead. The Purples continued dominating the game and kept more possession of the ball.
